We're drafting Waddle as a high-end No. 2 wide receiver early in Round 3 of full PPR drafts. While Waddle's production from 2023 may look like a letdown after 2022, that had more to do with health than anything. In the 12 games that he played more than 50% of the snaps, Waddle averaged 15.6 PPR Fantasy points per game, a slight uptick from his 2022 pace. He is one of 10 wide receivers to earn at least 350 targets since the start of 2021 and averaged better than nine yards per target. Waddle also has enormous upside if something happens to Tyreek Hill. He scored 28.2 Fantasy points in his lone game without Hill last year. Waddle is a top-12 Dynasty wide receiver who we view as more likely to move up than down in the coming year.

Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle: Signs lucrative extension

Waddle signed a three-year, $84.75 million contract extension with the Dolphins on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The deal includes $76 million guaranteed. Waddle is now one of the top five highest-paid receivers in the NFL with an annual salary of $28.25 million. The 2021 first-round pick has been dominant since entering the league, ripping off three straight seasons with 1,000-plus yards, including a 2022 campaign where he produced 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns across 17 regular-season games. The 25-year-old battled injuries last season but is fully healthy ahead of the 2024 campaign. Waddle is still the clear No. 2 receiver behind Tyreek Hill, but there's clearly room for both players to produce as the fastest receiving duo in the league.

The Dolphins officially exercised Waddle's fifth-year option Monday. Miami has made no secret of plans to pick up Waddle's fifth-year option this offseason, and the move is now official prior to Thursday's deadline. That keeps the third-year standout under contract for two more seasons and provides the Dolphins more time to negotiate a long-term deal with Waddle. The team added depth to the wideout room in the form of late-round rookies Malik Washington and Tahj Washington during the 2024 NFL Draft, but Waddle and Tyreek Hill remain the clear top targets for Tua Tagovailoa, with incumbents Braxton Berrios and River Cracraft available to split No. 3 duties.

General manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that he expects the Dolphins to pick up Waddle's fifth-year option, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. The Dolphins have consistently stated a desire to come to terms with Waddle on a long-term contract, and Grier specifically dismissed trade rumors earlier this offseason. The third-year pro has recorded three straight 1,000-yard seasons to begin his career, becoming the first wideout to do so in franchise history, and there's little question of his value as a No. 2 read behind Tyreek Hill. Picking up Waddle's fifth-year option will keep him under contract with the Dolphins for two more seasons.

Waddle (ankle) brought in two of five targets for 31 yards and rushed once for nine yards in the Dolphins' 26-7 wild-card loss to the Chiefs on Saturday night. Waddle was able to suit up after putting in three limited practices during the week following a two-game absence to close out the regular season. However, as his final numbers indicate, the third-year pro wasn't able to make any appreciable impact in the frigid temperatures. The disappointing conclusion to a once promising season aside, Waddle once again thrived as an ideal complement to Tyreek Hill in 2023, posting a 72-1,014-4 line during the regular season over 104 targets -- his third 1,000-yard tally in as many NFL campaigns -- and adding three carries for 12 yards across 14 games. With Waddle heading into the final year of his contract in 2024, the potential for an extension for the 2021 first-round pick figures to be the subject of plenty of discussion this offseason.

Coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Waddle may have suffered a high-ankle injury during Sunday's 22-20 win against the Cowboys, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Waddle first departed in Week 16 due to an eye injury, but after he was cleared to return, he eventually exited again due to what was called a shin issue at the time. After further testing, the Dolphins are honing in on the nature of the concern, and if he's diagnosed with the injury mentioned by McDaniel on Monday, Waddle could be in line for an absence of some kind. Wednesday's practice report will reveal how much work, if any, Waddle was able to handle as the team begins prep for Sunday's showdown at Baltimore.

Waddle exited for a few plays in the first quarter after taking a big hit at the end of a 16-yard catch over the middle, but he returned later on the same drive. Tyreek Hill (ankle) then left the game on the following possession, leaving Waddle as Miami's top wideout until Hill's return in the third quarter. Waddle finished as the team leader in catches and receiving yards in the narrow defeat, but he remains stuck on three touchdowns in 2023. With Hill hampered by his ankle injury, Waddle could be Miami's top healthy wide receiver Week 15 against the Jets.

Waddle tied with Tyreek Hill for the team lead in receptions while setting the pace in targets, but the disparity between the two receivers' final production was stark considering Hill's gaudy 157-yardage tally. Waddle's middling day was particularly disappointing considering his 114-yard day in Week 12 against the Jets, and outside of his two 100-yard efforts, he's been limited to 63 yards or fewer in seven of his last nine contests. Waddle shrugged off a tough matchup with a Jets secondary that came in allowing the fewest fantasy points in the league to wide receivers, as he set a season high in catches while coming seven yards short of his season high. This was only Waddle's second 100-yard performance of 2023 after he posted six such games last season. Waddle looks healthy after playing through injuries for much of the season, and he'll have a golden opportunity to build on his momentum in Week 13 against Washington's vulnerable secondary.
