A crowd of people gather outside the Supreme Court on the night of May 2 in Washington. A draft opinion circulated among Supreme Court justices suggests that earlier this year a majority of them had thrown support behind overturning the 1973 case Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion nationwide, according to a report published May 2 in Politico. "Bans Off Our Bodies" rallies are being held across the country on Saturday, including in Kahului. A “Bans Off Our Bodies” rally in support of Planned Parenthood and the protection of reproductive choice will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday in Kahului, according to a news release.

The rally will take place on the sidewalk facing West Kaahumanu Avenue in front of the former Sears building at 275 W. Kaahumanu Ave.

The public is invited, encouraged to bring positive signs and asked to wear green clothing items, the color theme of the pro-choice movement, the news release said.

Some sign-making material and assistance will be available starting at 9:30 a.m.

The Maui event coincides with rallies being held nationwide on the same day in support of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that established the right to a safe, legal abortion.

Earlier this month, the news outlet Politico leaked a draft majority opinion from Justice Samuel Alito indicating that the U.S. Supreme Court planned to strike down the landmark decision, sparking demonstrations across the country and concerns among advocates.

The high court has not yet issued a final decision.
